dear sir / madam, i have just bought a cube 40 xl. when connecting mu quitar (fender strat mex) and after increasing the volume just a little , there is an annoying noise (ham) comming from the amp. the noise is reduced when i touch the strings and/or the magnets. also is reduced if i change the magnets used or turn of the one of the two quitars volume control (the middle control). i have also changed the cable connecting the quitar to the amp, but the issue remains. i also noticed that the amp's plug does not contain a ground (third member). any help would be greatly appreciated since i really like my new amp. kind regards ........16-06-2011 08:57:58 - Bart Ieven
Hello,
As you noticed the Cube-40XL uses a non grounded power cable. The reason this has been done is that when using the amp together with other devices (MP3 player, computer, interface devices, etc) a rather annoying ground loop noise will become apparent. So the reason is clear and very useful but we have noticed that in some cases (I don't really know exactly why? maybe particular guitar, specific power network or even location within the room) a small hum is generated when not touching the guitar; this hum is electro magnetic radiency within this particular setting. A defibite solution is less easy. One, as I mentioned try using the amp at different locations (within your house or maybe somewhere else entirely). Is the noise the same? Less?more? The second option would be indeed to install a grounded cable, but this solution is not always effective and can cause other noise issues when using in combination with other devices (MP3, Computer, etc).
