Σόλο δισκογραφική επιστροφή για την πρώην μπροστάρισσα των The Cranberries, έπειτα από 15 και πλέον χρόνια επιτυχημένης πορείας με το συγκρότημα από την Ιρλανδία. Ο δίσκος κυκλοφόρησε πριν από περίπου ένα μήνα με τη συμμετοχή του Youth (The Verve, Embrace, Primal Scream, U2, Paul McCartney) στην παραγωγή, 12 καινούργια τραγούδια και την Dolores σε, λίγο πολύ, γνώριμα φωνητικά μονοπάτια.

Dolores O'Riordan - songstress, smouldering icon and critically acclaimed voice of The Cranberries - is back. Her first-ever solo LP Are You Listening? is released on Sequel Records, May 7th and features the stunning new single 'Ordinary Day.' Co-produced by Youth, Dan Broadbeck and engineered by Rich Chycki, the eagerly anticipated album is a 12-track tour de force and marks her first release in four years.

Written and recorded between her homes in Canada and Dublin, the album is a striking return to form, punctuated with angular chords and that crystalline voice. Folk-tinged, electric and deftly powerful, it's also a relentlessly melodic success. "My time after The Cranberries was a clean slate - no pressure and no contracts," Dolores enthuses. "It was the first time in my life I was a free agent. I had no inhibitions, which is how I felt when I first started out. That's all visible here."

Two of the tracks - 'Apple' and the forthcoming single 'Ordinary Day' - were produced by BRIT Award winner, Youth, whose previous credits include: The Verve, Embrace, Primal Scream, U2 and Paul McCartney. "He certainly brought his own vision to the table and softened the tracks without affecting their integrity or passion."

Ultimately, the CD was a process inspired by personal experiences, both light and dark. "My mother-in-law died of cancer shortly after I left The Cranberries, which was devastating. It was like watching a beast attack from the inside out, so the song 'Black Widow' is a metaphor inspired by that. At the other end of the spectrum 'Apple' was written about my husband and 'Ordinary Day' reflects the birth of my third baby, Dakota."

Other album highlights include the hypnotic 'In The Garden' with its shimmering guitar-rock crescendo, the delicateness of 'Watch The Stars' and 'Loser', which bristles with loops, layered vocals and an instant, razor-sharp hook. "It was a very organic, natural experience," Dolores adds. "I play guitar and have four fantastic musicians…a great bass player, a stellar drummer and an immaculate guitarist."

"Once the first 7 songs were penned, we went into the studio and had the musicians record first. Then we took it from there. We didn't rush it. In total, the writing and recording was a four-year period."

The album was an awakening for me in my life - a journey that I completed. It's like I crossed a bridge, which is a great new plateau to be on. My life is so different to how it was 10 years ago and there's a great sense of acceptance. It's a very exciting time to be releasing music again too. Song-writing is truly coming back."

Κάποιες ασχολούνται περισσότερο με κριτικές/αφιερώματα, άλλες με "οδηγούς" για επίδοξους συγγραφείς, άλλες ακόμα συνδυάζουν όλα τα παραπάνω. Σε πολλές θα βρείτε και προκηρύξεις για διαγωνισμούς, αναγγελίες για αφιερώματα, συμπόσια, εκδηλώσεις κ.ά.

Σπουδαστήριο Νέου Ελληνισμού. Ψηφιακή βιβλιοθήκη με ανθολόγια νεότερης ελληνικής λογοτεχνίας και συγγραφέων. Περιλαμβάνει το Αρχείο Καβάφη.

Λέξημα. Ηλεκτρονικό περιοδικό για τη λογοτεχνία. Άρθρα, μελέτες, συνεντεύξεις, βιβλιοπαρουσιάσεις, διαγωνισμοί κ.ά

Poetic Forms List. Όλα όσα θέλετε να μάθετε για τη στιχουργική των σταθερών μορφών - και όχι μόνο. Φιλοξενούνται περί τα 500 είδη, με αναφορές καταγωγής και ιστορικής εξέλιξης, ανάλυση των μορφολογικών γνωρισμάτων (μετρική κτλ) κ.ά. Χρήσιμο για όσους ασχολούνται με το έμμετρο ή/και τη ρίμα.

Έκτος, κατά σειρά, προσωπικός δίσκος για την ιδιοσυγκρατική δημιουργό από την Ισλανδία.
Με τη συνεργασία των Timbaland, Antony Hegarty, τον παλιό της γνώριμο Sjón κ.ά. και στρέφοντας τους ήχους προς την εξωστρεφή ατμόσφαιρα των πρώτων solo δίσκων της.

Αναφέρει η ίδια:

"I am always looking for words that have some sort of energy. Usually the name just comes, from a magazine or somebody says something. I had waited for years while working on the album but it didn't come. In the lyrics there are words like "voltage" and "voodoo", which I found to be too common somehow.

I have always tried to choose titles which are kind of latin or something, which aren't english, which is a little funny because we europeans find latin to be sort of neutral language... But I found Volta... I don't recall how it came about, but I Googled it and found that it is both the name of a scientist in Italy who invented the battery and also a river in Africa which had been built by men and a lagoon built by men called Lake Volta. So several parts come into it.

I'm not going to name anything specific, people can guess for themselves what it is. There is also a mideval dance with carries that name, a very funny dance which is very hard to learn. Thusly, I got a lot of things in one word: a dance, a river in Africa which doesn't work anymore, and the battery. So okay - this fits."

"Foul-mouthed, noisy, hairy, and damn well old enough to know better"

O σπηλαιώδης Νικόλας και μια μερίδα ντόρτια από την παλιοπαρέα της διονυσιασμένης τελετουργίας επέστρεψαν, μόλις πριν από 4 μέρες, με το side project Grinderman.

The story of Grinderman begins within the working processes of another band: Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. At the start of 2004, when Nick Cave took a small team of Bad Seeds members - violinist Warren Ellis, bassist Martyn P Casey and drummer Jim Sclavunos - off to the tiny Misère studio in Paris for a songwriting session, they effectively established a new working process.

Rather than compose songs on his own and present them to the band, Cave began to spin lyrics out of the air around Ellis, Sclavunos and Casey's tight, intuitive trio. When expanded out to the full Bad Seeds personnel, the result was Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus, a double album with a raw, organic, driving sound that some consider the best the Bad Seeds have ever produced, selling in excess of half a million copies worldwide.
Nick: "There was only a certain amount I could write in the office any more... With that little session in Paris with Warren, Jim and Marty, suddenly it was so easy to get a song out because you had the bass and drums behind everything and you're singing a different way. Your mind works in a completely different way."

The small combo configuration of Nick, Warren, Marty and Jim had its public debut in a showcase performance to promote the Bad Seeds' Nocturama album; the foursome continued working in this streamlined format, getting together frequently for Nick Cave "solo" tours, and functioning as a vital, active band. The prolific output of the Misère sessions, as well as various soundtracks and theatre scores that the four were working on during this period, began to suggest potential for a brand new band that might operate autonomously from the Bad Seeds, with a radically different sound and musical approach.

In February 2006, the four musicians booked themselves into London's Metropolis Studios for a five-day marathon of non-stop demo sessions, resulting in several hours of raw material.

Warren: "It was meant to be really open liberating thing. We went to places we would not normally go... and then tried to push it even further..."
Marty: "Having Nick on the guitar changes the whole dynamic."

The following month, Grinderman called in the producer behind the last two Bad Seeds album, Nick Launay.
Warren: "Launay gets good sounds down. We didn't want any obstacles between the band sound and the production, so Launay was perfect."
Together they recorded thirteen songs at RAK Studios in London, and then returned to Metropolis in October to mix their self-titled album, Grinderman.
Jim: "The name Grinderman seemed to suit the band. It sums up the sort of music we are making. We grind."
As Memphis Slim put it back in 1941, "While everything is quiet and easy/ Mr. Grinder can have his way..."

Στο τμήμα musical cd's θα βρείτε samples και ολόκληρα τραγούδια προς downloading από όλες τις δουλειές του, απ' το '95 ως σήμερα. (Ίσως η γνωστότερη είναι Η Κυρία Με Τις Καμέλιες του '99 για το Χοροθέατρο ΟΚΤΑΝΑ, όπου συνεργάστηκε με την Αλέξια.) Και αν το επίθετο σάς θυμίζει κάτι απροσδιόριστο, πρόκειται όντως για το γιο του γνωστού ζωγράφου.

Σε αυτούς εδώ πώς και δεν έχουμε αναφερθεί ακόμα; Καλλιο αργά παρά ποτέ.

Οι 2-L8 μας έρχονται από τη Βόρειο Ελλάδα και αποτελούνται από μια ομάδα καλλιτεχνών, με μεταβλητή σύνθεση στο δισκογραφικό και θεατρικό μέρος τους, αλλά με κοινό σημείο αναφοράς τον 23χρονο μπροστάρη Κώστα Βοζίκη.
Iδού πως αυτοπαρουσιάζονται οι ίδιοι στη δισκογραφική:

2L8 is the project of the 22-year-old Kosta Voziki and a team of musicians and collaborators. The music of 2L8 does not seek a formalistic identity but is rather unfolding through a number of conscious and unconscious references. It functions more as a personal narration, overcoming all restrictions. It is post punk, pop, industrial, rock, hardcore, post rock and at the same time it is nothing like that. The accompanying elements of this musical puzzle of 2L8 meet the need of a personal expression and sketches out what we call "a personal experience".

The guitars are most of the times a bit eccentrically played, some other times they are sharp or bulky or even have a pitched sound, finally sewing melodic results.The electronic elements in some songs keep the rhythm section, or inject the whole result with sounds and atmospheres. The distinguished voice plays the role of a central instrument which undergoes continuous transformations.

Prolific and torrential the band's narration process unfolds stories of urban madness and sensitivity. The lyrics are about relationships and competitions playing the game of constant alternations of feelings and situations. The outcome is sometimes minimalistic, other times raw and realistic, at times it can become theatrical, extravagant, melodramatic and dreamy. It balances through its constant shifting of attitudes, its darkness, its melancholy, brightness, optimism and sarcasm. It is possibly a heretic album for the ones who still believe there are stories worth being told.

και στη θεατρική δραστηριότητά τους:

2-L8 theatre is an independent theatre group based in Thessaloniki, looking to mesh forms of Visual Theatre, Performing Acts, Video Art Projection with live Musical Performance. Choreography and Light design are developed along with Musical rhythmic patterns and changing atmospheres. A group that creates contemporary theatre with and for young people. Cries and lullabies mixed altogether. Grotesque aesthetics meets fragile stillness, sensitive immobility. You dont want to look but you cant do otherwise!

A looping device records live and regenerates sounds made by an electric guitar. Multiple guitar subjects build up an entire orchestra constituted by Clean, Overdriven, Processed, and Peculiar Sounding guitars. Voices blended with Distortion, Reverb, deformity and depth, forced through Filters and EQs return creating previously raw, hard and previously melodramatic, fragile, optimistic atmospheres. A sound with starting line the silence that progressively flirts more and more with the catholic noise and leads to this in order to return in the silence once again, gloriously, electing her peacefulness and elevation.

Πρόκειται για άλλο ένα αξιοπρόσεκτο αγγλόφωνο ελληνικό project που παρέδωσε το ντεμπούτο του στα τέλη του 2005 (σαν να έχει δίκιο ο αγαπητός Κ. Βήτα πως τα ελπιδοφόρα πράγματα γεννιούνται γύρω στα μέσα κάθε δεκαετίας...). Το tracklist ξεδιπλώνεται στους εξής τίτλους:

Μια δουλειά (μαζί με εκείνες των Abbie Gale, The Dead Eyes Of Youth, Night On Earth κ.ά) που δεν πρέπει να περάσει στο ντούκου, μέσα στo δισκογραφικό αλαλούμ (ειδικά στην, εν πολλοίς, αμήχανη ελληνόφωνη σκηνή) των τελευταίων ετών. Aυτήν την εποχή ετοιμάζεται το δεύτερο δισκογραφικό τους βήμα.
Σημειώνω πως δείγματα της δουλειάς τους μπορείτε να ακούσετε ή/και να κατεβάσετε στις ιστοσελίδες τους, ενώ ολοκληρωμένες ακροάσεις γίνονται διαθέσιμες μέσω ΠΜ.
