1963: 1963 Hofner 500/1 bass: Hofner had updated its violin bass in '62, and in '63 gave one to McCartney.
1964: Epiphone Texan FT-79 acoustic (vintage unknown): Purchased in December and first used on Help!, notably "Yesterday," and other early Beatles songs. McCartney still has this instrument.
1964: 1962 Epiphone Casino: At the same time he bought the Texan, McCartney took bluesman John Mayall's advice and got this hollow-body electric guitar and used it to play leads on several Beatles recordings
1965: 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S-LH bass (Fire-glo): When he gave Harrison and Lennon guitars in February '64, F.C. Hall, the head of Rickenbacker, also tried to give McCartney this bass, one of the first left-handed Rick basses, a line so new that it was equipped with a right-handed headstock.
1966: 1964 Fender Esquire sunburst (vintage unknown): McCartney bought this single-pickup Telecaster model during the Revolver sessions and had the strap button moved to the "horn" side of the body. Also used on "Good Morning, Good Morning" and "Helter Skelter." As far as I know, McCartney still has this guitar.
1968:C.F. Martin D-28 acoustic (vintage unknown): This sweet-sounding dreadnaught surfaced during the "White Album" sessions (it's the one used on "Blackbird"), and can be seen in the "Two of Us" scene in the "Let It Be" film.
