"First of all it's a personal taste.
and yes, there's a difference in sound. If you don't hear it
'yet', well, you haven't been playing for long but don't worry one day you'll start hearing it. It also depends on your amp, the acoustics of the room you are in.
I have personally played the same exact strats, same apm, same everything apart from the necks. To me the sonic differeneces are as follows :
RW : tighter ( soundwaves seem to lose original form earlier in maple, if this explains 'tighter' )
MAPLE : Punchier ( This is the main reason it's preferrred )
RW : Mellower. ( to me this makes it more emotional )
MAPLE : More mids
and which one is brighter, well this is the big question, and this is also personal. The punch and mids in maple makes it sound like brighter but I personally find it a bit disturbing. RW is tighter, which in a way it makes it clearer sounding, especially when playing chords / rhythm ( you can hear the pleck hitting the steel better in RW ) , so is it brightness or clarity you're looking for, don't confuse the terms.
If you don't hear any difference and ask my opinion: Go with the RW since it has a larger range of music. Maple is more limited in the sense of range of music it lets, again this is just my opinion."
